Two men posing as PAGCOR employees who enticed unsuspecting victims into investing in casino games and defrauded them of P.5 million were arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) during an entrapment in Pasay City last week.
NBI Director Nestor M. Mantaring identified the suspects as:
1. LUISITO CLAVIO DE ASIS, 33, resident of Bay, Laguna,
2. FRANKLIN ASTRANDE EDNALIG JR., 25, resident of Puyat Subd. Taktak Rd. Antipolo City.
Investigation of the Intelligence Special Operations Division (ISOD) undr Head Agent Sixto Comia disclosed that sometime in June 2008, Anthony Costelo, Bryan Ang, Jack Agramon, Renato Bernabe, and Arnold A. Amano were enticed by the group of the suspects to invest in casino. The suspects claimed that they were from PAGCOR who can manipulate the schedule of game fixers in the casino. The suspects told them that they could triple the amount of money they would invest by way of playing it in the casino.
On June 20, 2008, Costelo and Ang gave the suspects P150,000. The following day, another P300,000.00 was given to the suspects in a residential house of a certain Mr. Cervantes at Las Pinas. Two days later, June 23, 2008, suspects demanded another P150,000 from the complainants in order to set a schedule for a game in the casino. They were also instructed by the suspects to get a room in the Heritage Hotel and to bring said amount. Suspecting that they were being fooled, they sought NBI assistance.
On June 25, 2008 NBI-ISOD agents set an entrapment. At about 6:00 PM, suspect De Asis entered Rm. 312 of the said hotel where the complainants checked in and demanded from Costelo and Ang the money. After receiving the marked money, NBI operatives arrested De Asis. As he revealed that his companions were waiting for him to deliver the amount, NBI accompanied him to his companions who, however, noticed the presence of the operatives. Hot pursuit ensued, and suspect Ednalig was arrested in Marikina City.
Accordingly, syndicate members use different aliases and misrepresent themselves to entice unsuspecting victims.
Suspects were brought to the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings on charges for violation of Art. 315 (Estafa) and Art. 282 (Grave Threats) of the Revised Penal Code They are presently detained at the NBI jail.
