With
a long and colorful history as the country's premier investigative agency, the
National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) celebrated its 75th diamond anniversary
in fitting ceremonies at its main office in Manila today. President
Benigno S. Aquino III was the guest-of-honor and
speaker. He was welcomed by NBI Director
Magtanggol B. Gatdula and
Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima. The
program was held at
10:00 AM at the NBI gym. Director
Gatdula delivered the opening remarks followed by the
presentation of awards to 23 NBI personnel. Justice Secretary De Lima
introduced the President. This
year's celebration is a milestone, after over 75 years of meaningful public
service under 17 directors. As any
organization, it confronted countless challenges which put to test the
capability of its men and women as professional
investigators and experts in support services.
Its strength has been shown in many trying circumstances and it takes
pride that after over seven decades it has surmounted them all. Today,
under the leadership of Director Magtanggol B. Gatdula and with the support of the Aquino administration,
it pursues a vision of a law enforcement institution that is globally
recognized and capable in fighting criminal and lawless elements. This
year's theme is - "NBI: Ang Inyong Kaagapay
sa Tuwid
na Daan."
