National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents nabbed two long wanted fugitives in estafa cases involving millions of pesos in two separate operations conducted in Quezon City last Wednesday.

First to fall was VALERIE SANTIAGO VON SUCH alias Valerie Aquino y Such whose vehicle was intercepted by NBI operatives along 12th Avenue, Cubao, Quezon City. Von Such was served a Warrant of Arrest issued in May, 2008 by the Regional Trial Court Branch 85 of Quezon City for the crime of Estafa under Criminal Case No. Q-07-1493.

Von Such was the subject of complaint by the general manager of Nissan Gallery of Libis, Quezon City for defrauding the firm of more than P19 million about an order and purchase by suspect of twelve (12) Nissan Sentra X-Trail Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and two (2) Nissan Sentra Patrol vehicles. Subject paid the said firm through a letter of credit and postdated checks which later proved spurious.

In another operation, another long wanted fugitive, RICARDO MERCANO JR. was apprehended by the same team of NBI agents at his residence in Philip's North Point Park Subdivision, San Bartolome, Quezon City by virtue of a Warrant of Arrest issued in August 2006 by the Regional Trial Court Branch 37, Calamba City for the crime of Estafa under Criminal Case No. 13027-05. Mercano and several others collected money from certain investors for a non-existing condominium project amounting to P3.5 million.

The NBI is calling the general public who have been victimized by the said suspects to file their complaints at NBI main office, Taft Avenue, Manila.

Both arrested suspects are currently detained at the NBI. The Bureau is checking on their records for more possible warrants of arrest issued against both subjects under different aliases.
