The NBI avails of significant stride in Forensics
The daunting task of law enforcement demands the best of men and the most from them. Beyond these fine qualities is the need for appropriate modern technology that fortify findings in crime investigation. The aim is to ensure the incontrovertibility of an evidence which is essential in investigation.
At this time when diverse sectors of the global community avails of technological strides, expectedly, so do law enforcement worldwide. And among the significant forensic advances that has caught human interest is the DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ACID (DNA).
Pursuant to its mandate as an investigative agency and in keeping with its vowed thrust of maintaining quality service, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) took cognizant of the DNA as a truly modern facility in aid of investigation.
In 1996, the NBI procured its first DNA machine, 310 Genetic Analyzer with one (1) capilliary. It functioned well and served its purpose on many occasions up to the present. Thereafter, in 2006, under the directorship of Atty. Nestor M. Mantaring, the Bureau acquired another set of DNA facility, a 3130 Genetic Analyzer with four (4) capilliaries in addition to the first one. This DNA machine is upgraded and upgradable.
