INTERCEPTION OF ILLEGAL LOGS SOURCED FROM AREAS IN BUKIDNON

       Acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, Agents of NBI-Region X Office intercepted three (3) trucks bound for Cagayan de Oro City.  All trucks were fully loaded with logs and other forest products.  CENRO of DENR Region 10 would later certify that these forest products were illegally transported sans any legal documents/permits in direct contravention of Sec. 68 of PD 705, as amended by EOs 23 & 227.  All drivers and helpers were accordingly charged before the Prosecutor’s Office.

       It is significant to note that this recent apprehension of a large volume of illegal logs came just three (3) months after Typhoon Sendong devastated Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities. An Inter-Agency Task Force created to determine the cause of the magnitude of damage wrought about by the storm, initially pointed to the unabated/rampant illegal logging as the proximate cause of the desolation produced by “Sendong”.
