EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Arrest of JIMMY ATO y MATEO
Suspect in the killing of Fr. FAUSTO TENTORIO
On 29 December 2011, joint-operatives of NBI Regional Office 10 (Northeastern Mindanao), Cagayan de Oro City and Saranggani District Office, General Santos City arrested Subject JIMMY ATO y MATEO, a suspect in the killing of Fr. FAUSTO TENTORIO of Arakan, North Cotabato.
The manhunt was made pursuant to a standing warrant of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court (RTC), Branch 13, Cotabato City in Criminal Case No. 2245 for Destructive Arson with Homicide.
The operation was carefully launched as the target area (Sitio Mahiwakhiwak, Kulaman Valley, Arakan, North Cotabato) is an hour rugged-terrain ride and two-hour mountain trek under a nerve chilling temperature. The valley is located more or less a thousand feet above sea-level elevation and strategically located in the village are the houses of Subject JIMMY ATO, his siblings, parents and relatives.
The team likewise took into consideration the verified report that the residents in the area possess short and long firearms. In fact, Subject’s brother ROBERT ATO shot at them several times but fortunately no one was hit.
A team from the Counter Intelligence, 23IB, 4ID, PA provided reinforcement after our operatives received a possible rescue attempt after Subject was arrest.
Subject was brought to NBI Regional Office 10, Cagayan de Oro City where he was booked, fingerprinted, and photographed per SOP. He is now detained at NBI RO10 jail. The warrant of arrest was returned accordingly to the issuing court.
